Pet urn size guide
The industry sizes urns by capacity in cubic inches, using a long-standing rule of thumb: allow roughly one cubic inch of capacity for each pound of your pet's healthy body weight.
What the rule does and doesn't tell you
- It is a capacity guide, not a prediction of the exact volume returned.
- Bone density and body composition vary, so actual volume differs between pets of the same weight.
- If you plan to split ashes between keepsakes, size the main urn for the remainder.
- Ask your provider what container is included before buying separately — some include a basic urn or a temporary container.
- If you plan to bury the urn, ask whether the material is suitable and whether a vault is required.
