Services you can compare
Each service page explains how it works, what providers mean by the terminology, and what actually drives the price in your market.
Private Pet Cremation
In a private cremation, your pet is cremated individually and the ashes returned to you. The term is used inconsistently across the industry, so the single most useful question to ask a provider is how many pets are in the chamber during the cycle and how identity is tracked from pickup to return.
Communal Pet Cremation
In a communal cremation, several pets are cremated together and the ashes are not returned to individual families. It is the lowest-cost cremation option and is often what a veterinary clinic arranges by default unless you ask for something else.
Dog Cremation
Dog cremation follows the same process as any pet cremation, but weight matters more than for any other companion animal: providers price in bands, and a large-breed dog can fall two or three bands above a small one. Weight can also determine which facilities are able to accept your dog at all.
Cat Cremation
Most cats fall into a provider's smallest weight band, which makes cat cremation the most price-consistent service in the category. The meaningful differences between providers are usually disposition type, turnaround, whether pickup is included, and what container comes with the base price.
Pet Aquamation
Aquamation, also called alkaline hydrolysis or water cremation, uses a heated alkaline water solution rather than flame. Availability is genuinely limited and market-specific — we only list it for a market when a verified local provider offers it, and we do not publish aquamation pages for markets where none does.
Pet Pickup
Pickup is the transport step between where your pet is now and the provider's facility. It is the part of pet aftercare with the widest variation between providers: some include it in a flat price, some charge by mileage or zone, and some only run scheduled routes rather than immediate dispatch.
At-Home Pet Euthanasia
In-home euthanasia is performed by licensed veterinarians who travel to you. Pet Aftercare Finder does not provide veterinary services, give medical advice, or perform euthanasia — we help you find independent local veterinary providers and understand how their appointments and aftercare options are structured.

Common questions
- Does Pet Aftercare Finder operate crematoriums or provide veterinary care?
- No. Pet Aftercare Finder is a search and referral platform. Every service is delivered by an independent local provider. We do not operate crematoriums, provide veterinary treatment, perform euthanasia or transport pets ourselves.
- How much does pet cremation cost?
- Pricing is local and is usually based on disposition type and your pet's weight band. We publish market price ranges only where we hold enough verified provider prices to calculate one, and we show nothing rather than an estimate where we don't.
- What if there are no providers listed for my ZIP code?
- We tell you plainly. Coverage is being built market by market, and you can still submit a request — uncovered-market requests are recorded so we know where to expand next.
- How are providers verified?
- We check each provider's own published information — services offered, pickup capability, turnaround and pricing where published — and record the source and check date. Anything we cannot verify is left blank instead of being filled in.
